The development of
Telehealth has occurred during a period of great change
of current trends and policies in healthcare. Hospital
resources are failing to keep up with demand,
with a shift from secondary care driven services to
Primary care driven services.
People are also being encouraged to
participate more actively in their own healthcare management
especially those with chronic, long-term conditions.
The Telehealth service comprises
3 separate elements;
- The Telehealth monitor which allows patients
to take their own vital signs readings
- A patient record database and monitoring system
which is located at a 24 hour staffed monitoring
centre
- The clinical workstation used by the patient’s
doctor or nurse to review the results of the readings
